Dual-Purpose Detection Patrol Dog Course

A Jordanian National center of excellence that achieves international standards in all K9 related services.

Duration: 10-12 weeks (50 – 60 working days)

Students: Up to 6

Pre-Requisites

  • Physically fit
  • Must be able to lift 40 kg
  • Must be affiliated with K9 unit or association
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience in working with K9
  • Must be willing to accept wearing K9 biting clothing and equipment
  • Must not possess a fear of dogs

Course Description

This course is designed to train the basic Dual-purpose patrol dog Handlers to be mission ready. Training will cover either patrol/ explosive detection or patrol/ narcotic detection; it will include theoretical and practical exercises with different scenarios. Upon completion, trainees must successfully pass the JNK9C K-9 Basic dual purpose K9 handlers’ certification.

  • Rewards, timing and markers
  • Vigilance & caution and understanding the K9 behavior
  • Environmental considerations
  • Handler protection by the K9
  • Aggression control, how to control your K9 aggression
  • Gun fire control, acclimate your K9 to gunfire and how to control his aggression to it
  • Tracking people
  • Equipment usage and care
  • Muzzle work
  • K9 Psychology
  • Explosive or narcotic Detection principles
  • Environmental issues that might affect the K9’s performance
  • Storage of training aids
