Narcotics Detection / Basic Course

Duration: 4 to 6 weeks (20 – 30 working days)

Students: Up to 10

Pre-Requisites

  • Physically fit
  • Personnel must have basic background with dogs
  • Must be affiliated with K9 unit or association

Course Description

This course is designed to train K9s and Handlers on Narcotic detection. Handlers are expected to be familiar with the K9 deployment guidelines. Training will include theoretical and practical exercises with different scenarios. Upon completion, trainees must successfully pass the center’s K-9 Narcotic Detector Dog certification test.

  • Identify K9’s body and instinctive drives
  • Search patterns
  • Understanding air currents
  • Rewards, timing and markers
  • Vigilance & caution and understanding the K9 behavior
  • Environmental considerations
  • Planning considerations
  • How to deal with narcotic substances
  • Safety procedures for situations with hiding areas in vehicles and buildings
